Rotary Presents Methuen Fire Department with Grant

The Methuen Fire Department is on the front lines delivering care and working to overcome challenges to care delivery. There is an increase in demand and in the cost for crucial medical supplies to keep staff and the wider community safe.

Rotary District 7930 received a $25,000 Disaster Response Grant for Covid-19 from The Rotary Foundation. The Rotary Foundation Disaster Response Grant for COVID-19 was established to help equip front line clinical staff with critical Personal Protective Equipment (PPE) in response to the challenges of the COVID-19 pandemic, making it possible for teams to have the resources they need, when they need them most. Rotary District 7930 was awarded $25,000.00 with $15,625.00 of the grant monies providing PPE to various care provider facilities and $9375 providing PPE for Police/Fire Departments and First Responders across the North Shore, Greater Boston area, Greater Salem NH area, and the Merrimack Valley.

We recognize how the situation with COVID-19 is rapidly changing our lives. As together we navigate the unique realities of the day, we are truly grateful for the opportunity to partner with Methuen Fire Department  via The Rotary Foundation Disaster Response Grant for Covid-19.

This grant has specifically helped with the purchase of  880 N95 masks that  serve to equip firefighters  on the visits needing precautions during the pandemic.

It all comes down to being prepared – thank you to Rotary District 7930 for needed resources that allow Methuen Rotary Club  to give the Methuen Fire Department the ability to prepare.

Fuel the Fight

Andover Cares, The Knights of Columbus, and Rotary Club's are partnering to help Fuel The Fight-The Andovers, Inc..

75% of all (tax deductable) donations for Fuel The Fight made through Andover Cares will support feeding health care workers providing front-line support for citizens in our region. Any remaining donations will support this, or other local causes related to health and wellness in our community, which Andover Cares sponsors.

Our struggling local restaurants need business to help survive through the prolonged stay at home advisory period …. Holy Family Hospital  and Lawrence General Hospital employees working on the front line of the Covid pandemic need food because their cafeteria is closed ... and moreover, the outpouring of
public support in sending meals to the hospital has been a "tremendous" emotional boost to the healthcare workers while they face Covid-19 every day.

FTF campaigns began and grew organically among people eager to help both frontline essential workers and the struggling food service industry. As a result, they seek to reach as many health care workers in their community as possible.
To serve these needs, "Fuel the Fight - The Andovers, Inc." was established by four Andover business women to gather donations that are 100% utilized via this "Go Fund Me" to pay participating local restaurants for meals they deliver to the hospital.

"Our mission is to help the local restaurants struggling to stay in business during this crisis while supporting the health care workers at Lawrence General Hospital." - Kristen Guthrie

Several of our local restaurants have signed up to participate in this program .. and your donation will help keep this initiative going! The heart of FTF’s operation is found in its local community leaders, and volunteers. FTF is committed to nurturing the next generation of public servants, leaders, and philanthropists.

Kindly make a donation to this worthy cause today.

Thank you!

District 7930 3rd Annual Polar Plunge

Posted by Jose Cruz on Feb 21, 2013

This past Saturday, February 23, The Methuen-Salem Rotary Club participated on the Rotary District 7930 3rd Annual Polar Plunge at the Cape Ann Motor Inn in Gloucester, Massachusetts. The event originally planned for February 9th, but was postponed and re-schedule due to the weather.

Clubs from all over the district take part on this event, from Boston north to Salem, N.H. and East to the Cape Ann communities of Gloucester, Rockport, Essex and Manchester

This event brings every year more than 200 people that plunge into the cold waters off Cape Ann. The Gloucester Rotary Club was the host for this event. Last year approximately 160 people participated on this event as an effort to increase fellowship, fundraising and polio eradication. The District raised over $62,000.00 which is almost twice the amount raised last year.

IEFT operates Orkeeswa Secondary School, located in the predominantly Maasai area of northern Tanzania known as the Monduli hills. Through the development of Orkeeswa School, IEFT provides secondary education to children from rural villages of the region. For our students, Orkeeswa Secondary School offers the only community-based option for continuing their studies beyond the primary level.

Guest speaker - Belen Godwin, Executive Director from Blueskies Wellness, Inc.

Posted by Jose Cruz on Sep 27, 2012
On Friday Sept. 28th, we had guest speaker Belen Godwin, executive director for Blueskies Wellness, Inc. Blueskies Wellness Inc., (BSW) was conceived by Belen Godwin in 2006 while collecting research in pursuit of her PhD in Educational Psychology. After hearing the experiences of a close relative who was bullied because of a speech impediment, she was determined to study the effects of bullying and ways to prevent it.

The information she acquired on the processes that defuse academic progress in many school age children inspired her to find a solution, particularly in the case of bullying.

BSW was incorporated as a non-profit charitable organization in the state of Massachusetts on May 3rd, 2011 and is affiliated with the Interfaith Hospitality Network (IHN) in southern New Hampshire.

President Elect Tim Frechette first meeting

Posted by Jose Cruz on Jul 19, 2012

President Trudy wasn’t able to attend this week’s meeting, so President Elect Tim Frechette had the pleasure of running his first meeting as President Elect; he did a fantastic job… hooray!!

Image

For this Friday we had a classification speaker; our very own Ivette Korecki. She talked to the club about herself and her new position at TD Bank in route 28 Methuen.  She was brought up in Brooklyn, NY, and moved to Massachusetts about eight years ago. She thanked a lot of who she is to her Dad, who gave her a lot of support and inspiration while she grew up. She went to school to study criminal justice, which she had to give up right before taking the Bar Exam, as her father was very ill and she needed to take care of him. She then became a banker starting as an underwriter, and later moving to operations and so on.  Her latest endeavor is now with TD Bank in Methuen, after working for Bank of America for many years. She resides in Methuen with her husband and daughter.

Image

Dr. Tom Perrault addressed the club for a small announcement and update. Dr. Perrault made a $50 donation to the club, as last Thursday the Greater Lawrence Community Action Council finally hired an Executive Director. As you all recall the club stood up behind Dr. Perrault in times of turmoil for the GLCAC. The GLCAC went through a lot of issues in the past as we all know, but the integrity of the agency has now been restored. The organization is now even considered a MODEL agency. Even some speeches at national convention levels have been delivered, about the miracle of the Greater Lawrence Community Council.  Dr. Perrault is happy that all these issues have come to a successful conclusion, and he wanted to personally give thanks to the club for all the support.

Guest Speaker, Tony Sicurella, General Manager for JCPenney

Posted by Jose Cruz

We had a guest speaker this Friday; Tony Sicurella, General Manager for JCPenney at the Mall of Rockingham Park in Salem, NH. Mr. Sicurella spoke to the club about all of the exiting things happening at JCPenney lately, starting with the hiring of a new CEO, and the re-branding of the entire company.

He also mentioned the heavily involvement of JCPenney on the communities they serve. Over 110 years ago, James Cash Penney founded his company on the principle of treating customers the way he wanted to be treated himself: fair and square. Today, rooted in its rich heritage, J. C. Penney Company, Inc. is re-imagining every aspect of its business in order to reclaim its birthright and become America’s favorite store. The Company is transforming the way it does business and remaking the customer experience across its 1,100 JCPenney stores and on jcp.com.
